Pick your style

Mahjong is several games that share one set of tiles. Once you know the basic turn, learn the one your group plays.

American Mahjong

Played with a card of hands that changes every year, eight jokers, and the Charleston before the first turn.

Chinese Mahjong

Hong Kong play in full: four sets and a pair, no jokers, and a hand scored in faan, often against a minimum your table sets.

Japanese Mahjong

Riichi, where a finished hand also needs a yaku before it can win, and scores are counted in han and fu.

Two-Player Mahjong

Two games share the name: the League's own two-handed rules, and a variant where each player runs two hands at once.
